London said farewells to the Olympic Games with a romp through British pop and fashion and bought the curtain down on more than two weeks of action that ended with America being at the top of the sportting world with 46 gold medals and Russia only 24.




There was another huge crowd  at the stadium in east London late on Sunday August 12 and millions of people were expected to watch this amazing show on TV.

George Michael, Kate Bush, Anny Lennox, Take That, The Spice Girls and more took part in an exciting finale that summed up Britains enthusiasm for the Games

Then the stadium was bathed in the colours and sounds of Brazil, as 2016 Olympics will be held in Rio de Janeiro.

The circus-style ceremony was set to a British soundtrack og the last 50 years, featuring the songs of Queen, the Kinks, the Beatles,Pink Floid and more.
The Who sang the final song "My Generation", an echo of the London 2012 motto which was "Inspire a Generation".The Olympic flag was handed to Eduardo Paes, Rio's mayor, before International Olympic Committee president Jaques Rogge declared them closed.
The Olympic Flame was extinguished, fireworks filled the sky, the athletes walked off.
